Director of Infrastructure

Job Introduction

The Director of Infrastructure will have a passion for technology, excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This person will manage the Infrastructure Team in the day-to-day operations of a 24/7 production environment, including but not limited to data centers, servers, and networks. The primary goal of the Infrastructure Team is to deliver a high performing and highly reliable infrastructure for multiple software products. This position will have a profound impact on the company's future at a defining moment in the evolution of the company.

Role Responsibility

  • Overall leadership of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Corporate systems infrastructure teams.
  • Oversee the day to day operations of a 24/7 high-traffic Web environment as well as plan new build-outs and initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic planning, tactical operation planning, and the development of contingency operation plans for Production and other environments.
  • Conduct capacity planning to ensure timely acquisition of IT resources, monitor infrastructure budget and IT resources.
  • Oversee Capital Expenditures and Computing expenses for the company, including budgeting, tracking, and cost containment.
  • Prepare disaster recovery site and test exercises to restore all operations in a timely manner.
  • Oversee all monitoring and analysis tools and processes.
  • Oversee production scheduling and change management processes, establish customer Service Level Agreements (SLA) and achieve performance criteria as agreed.
  • Work with Executive Senior management to develop and direct the long term strategy for the Infrastructure Architecture team.
  • Work closely with the Development teams to facilitate enterprise application architecture initiatives.
  • Act as liaison between Infrastructure and other departments.
  • Develop and implements standards, procedures, best practices and business processes.
  • Provide weekly reports citing metrics on server and systems monitoring, backups, and utilization, trends, successes and challenges.

The Ideal Candidate

  • 10+ years total experience in IT, including 6+ years in a production 24/7 high consumer traffic Web environment, including Web hosting, security and information protection, load balancing implementations and high availability networks. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Information Technology field of study; Masters Preferred.
  • Experience leading a team of UNIX administrators that administer, maintain and support all UNIX based server hardware and Operating Systems. The team is responsible for the support and maintenance of all UNIX Server hardware and Operating Systems which  are Red Hat Linux, AIX, Solaris, and other Linux distributions. Comfortable managing large volume Websites and transaction processing systems with 24/7 availability.
  • Person should have a technical competency and knowledge with knowledge of system internals, LVM, file system, network, and server performance utilizing Dtrace/truss/strace and other tools to troubleshoot and understand system performance.
  • Knowledge of kick start/jump start/commvault/netbackup and other backup technologies
  • Past hands-on experience with full site deployments from the planning/design stages to full implementation.
  • Prefer those with past experience with PCI and other regulatory compliance issues in Infrastructure, as well best practices in Security applications.
  • Experience with VMWare virtualization environments and capacity/cost strategy.
  • Extensive experience working with software/hardware vendors to negotiate costs, enforce service level agreements and leverage relationships to leverage industry best practices in infrastructure implementation.
  • Knowledge of Unix (Solaris, AIX), Linux, Oracle, SQL Server and database clustering technologies a plus.  
  • Experience implementing systems/processes to track baseline operational procedures and advising on direction to reduce baseline operational costs while maintaining quality of service.
  • Experience working with facilities management to closely monitor critical facilities upon which computer systems are dependent for the purpose of coordinated management of infrastructure, early recognition of capacity trends and joint planning/budgeting for growth initiatives.
  • Excellent management skills with in-depth knowledge of company’s product hosting objectives.
  • Excellent time management, communication, decision making, presentation and organization skills.
  • Attention to detail and top-notch problem-solving skills a must.
